How to pick a viral reel worth cloning

Most of the work in remaking a viral reel happens before you make anything: choosing the right reel. This free course has 5 short lessons. Each one gives you one test to run on a reel, so by the end you can look at any viral video and know whether it will carry over to your business.

Who this course is for

Small business owners, store owners, marketers and agencies who post short videos on TikTok, Instagram Reels or YouTube Shorts. You don't need editing skills. You need a business, a product or service, and a few minutes per lesson.

The lessons work whether you film your own reels or remake them with a tool. Where Clone Viral Videos can do a step for you, we say so.

The 5 lessons

  1. Format, not fame. Why some reels can be remade and others can't, and the one question that sorts them.
  2. The hook. How to read the first two seconds of a reel and check that its opening will still work for your brand.
  3. Shots and pacing. How to break a reel into shots, count the cuts and spot the parts that are hard to rebuild.
  4. Match it to your business. How to check that your product can play the role the original product played, for the people you sell to.
  5. From template to your reel. The step-by-step path from a reel you like to a finished video you can post.

Each lesson takes about five minutes to read and ends with a short exercise.

What you need

  • A phone or computer to watch reels.
  • A list of three to five reels you've saved because they caught your eye. If you don't have any yet, browse the viral template library. It sorts reels by category, such as products, beauty, food, real estate and home services.
  • A note app for the exercises.

Free tools that go with the course

  • The viral reel analyzer breaks a public reel into its hook, shots and pacing. You will use it in lessons 2 and 3.
  • The hook checker scores an opening line you write and suggests rewrites. You will use it in lesson 2.
  • The viral format finder suggests reel formats for your type of business and goal.

All three are free and need no credit card.

What you'll be able to do at the end

  • Tell in under a minute whether a reel works because of its format or because of who is in it.
  • Name the hook type of any reel and write your own version of it.
  • Write a shot list for a reel, with rough timings.
  • Pick reels that fit your product, your customers and the claims you can honestly make.
  • Turn a reel you like into your own version, step by step.

A note on honesty

A viral reel shows that a format can hold attention. It doesn't promise your version will get the same views. Those depend on your account, your audience and timing. What a good pick does is give you a starting point that has already worked for someone, instead of a blank page.

Start with lesson 1: format, not fame.
